What are you noticing today?

Questions are powerful tools. When we ask ourselves the right questions, we can unlock an entirely new pathway on our journey to emotional wellness.

In each session I have with clients, I begin by asking a few simple questions. These questions serve as gateways that allow you to lead our conversations with exploration and curiosity.

What’s coming up for you today?

This question gently invites you to bring awareness to your present moment experience. By pausing and observing what arises within you, you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and sensations as they come.

What you notice may be a subtle whisper or a loud call for attention, but either way, it provides valuable insight into your inner world.

What do you notice happening in your body as you share that with me?

This ”noticing” can look different for each person. Some may feel a physical sensation such as a tightening or constriction in a particular area in their body. It may feel like their heart begins to race, or their pace of breathing changes. Others may notice an impulse for movement such as wanting to pull away, make a particular gesture with their hand, or even begin to tap their foot. Others may have an image or picture come to mind.

Sometimes, what comes up is a lack of sensation or not noticing anything in our bodies. That too, is something to notice! All of these are insights that help us connect more deeply to what’s happening in our bodies.

Often, we are not necessarily taught to trust our bodies. We might instead ignore them, check out, or even despise them. This can be particularly true if there is a history of trauma. But our body also has the potential to be a powerful guide and source of wisdom.

Our bodies have been working hard to protect us from everything we’ve been through. Our body knows and remembers every part of our life’s journey – every sorrow, every joy, every grief, every pain. As we learn to trust our body and what it's telling us, we can begin to receive valuable feedback from it that can help us along our healing journey.
